FAQ
Designers who build their Figma work for clients and are tired of fighting Webflow, Framer, Squarespace, or Shopify templates. Bonsai gives you real production code you own.
You need to be comfortable in a code editor and a terminal. The agent layer does much of the heavy lifting: AI tools read Bonsai’s conventions, so they build the way the kit is designed instead of guessing.
It is a real Next.js and Sanity codebase, not a no-code tool. If you have never run a command in a terminal, start there before you buy.
A free starter gets you a clean install. Bonsai starts where those stop: a page builder with typed sections, caching that stays fresh through a signed webhook, link and media fields that cover the edge cases, SEO and redirects in the CMS, and a Studio your clients can find their way around.
Those decisions come from real client projects, made once and kept. You start on the design on day one instead of rebuilding the plumbing.
Bonsai is built around Claude Code: AGENTS.md, the Bonsai Almanac, and skills that set up a site with you (bonsai-plant) and build new sections with you (bonsai-builder). Other agents that read AGENTS.md, such as Cursor or Codex, pick up the same conventions.
Yes. Every site ships an llms.txt your client owns, drafted from their content with one button in the Studio, and serves each page as clean Markdown to any AI agent that asks for it. Browsers still get the normal page.
Yes. Unlimited client projects, commercial use, no per-site fees and no attribution required. That’s the point. The only thing you can’t do is resell the kit itself.
Sanity has a free tier that covers most small business sites. Larger teams or heavier usage may need a paid plan. Check sanity.io/pricing for current limits.

I build my own client sites on Bonsai, so when Next.js or Sanity ships a major version, the kit moves with it. Each release is one commit with a changelog entry, and you merge it when it suits your project.
Yes. You enter your GitHub username at checkout, and that account gets access to the private repo, including every future release. If you don’t have one yet, create it before you buy.
E-commerce, member logins, and a drag-and-drop editor. Bonsai is a codebase you build on, not a theme to fill in. Some sites I’ve shipped on Bonsai have custom work on top that isn’t part of the kit.
Sales are final. You get the full source code as soon as you accept your GitHub invite, and a clone can’t be returned. If you’re unsure whether Bonsai fits, email me before you buy and I’ll give you a straight answer, even if it’s no. If your invite never arrives, I’ll fix that.
